  • Pickering's Daveon Banks named All-LDL MVP for 2013

  • The 2013 football season proved to be successful for all Vernon Parish teams, with two out of the three teams reaching at least the first round of the LHSAA State Playoffs.

  • The 2013 football season proved to be successful for all Vernon Parish teams, with two out of the three teams reaching at least the first round of the LHSAA State Playoffs.
    Between Leesville, Pickering and Rosepine Vernon Parish had 11 players named to their respective All-District's first team's, 19 players named to the second team, while claiming one Offensive MVP.
    Four Vernon Parish athletes were recognized on the state level named to their respective classes LSWA All-State team. Both Rosepine and Pickering received one selection to the Class 2A All-State team with Pickering's Daveon Banks named as a running back and Rosepine's Eric Kyle named as a punter. While each school also had one player selected to Class 2A honorable mention list in Rosepine's Stanley Hogan and Pickering's Latif Armiyaw.
    The 2013 All-LDL MVP went to Pickering's Daveon Banks who helped the Red Devils to a 6-4 record and berth in the LHSAA State Playoffs. Banks, was also named the District 3-2A Offensive Most Valueable Player.
    This year's All-LDL Coach of the Year could have went to any of our three Vernon Parish head coaches who all deserve a pat on the back for they each respectively accomplished this year.
    Leesville first year head coach Tommy Moore took over a Wampus Cat team that is in the rebuilding phase and led his team to a 2-8 season.
    Rosepine coach Danny Smith led his Eagles to their second consecutive playoff berth, 6-4 season record and share of the district title.
    Johnny Cryer of Pickering the 2013 All-LDL Coach of the Year took over a Red Devil that had struggled for the last several seasons and led them to a 6-4 season, a berth in the LHSAA State Playoffs and knocked off the No. 1 team in Class 1A during the 2013 season.
    Along with Banks Pickering had 10 other players named to the All-LDL team. Led by All-LDL quarterback Garritt Collins, wide receiver Dontay Hargrove, offensive linemen Austin Chandler, Haydn Coleman, defensive linemen DeAndre Payton, Briar Green, linebacker Brad Conn, defensive back Latif Armiyaw and Jacee Murray.
    The Rosepine Eagles also had 11 players represented on the All-LDL team led by running back Stanley Hogan, Noah Martin, offensive lineman Chase Anselmo, athlete Stanley Hogan, defensive linemen Gage Wisby, Brandon Roshoto, linebacker Chase Partridge, defensive backs Stanley Hogan, Brandon Hepinstall, kick returner Noah Martin and punter Eric Kyle.
    The Leesville Wampus Cats rounded out the All-LDL team with six selections. The Cats were led by wide receiver Darren McQueen, Dontrell Lewis, offensive linemen Elbert Mauberry, Logan Kreyenbuhl, linebackers Kory Jones and Julian Rodriguez.
    Congratulations to all our coaches and players for an excellent 2013 season you have set the bar high for future teams.
