Foul play is not suspected in the death of an elderly Morehouse Parish man, whose body was discovered along a gravel road northeast of Mer Rouge early Friday.
Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs said the man, identified as 88-year-old Roosevelt Leopold, was discovered approximately 100 yards from his home on Bud Road.
Tubbs said dispatchers received a call from a passing motorist shortly before 8 a.m.
“As much as we can tell, he probably walked away from his home some time last night,” Tubbs said. “There were signs that he walked along both sides of the road before he slipped and fell.”
Temperatures that dipped into the lower twenties overnight were, Tubbs said, likely a contributing factor in Leopold’s death.
People and businessmen in Mer Rouge told investigators that friends and neighbors helped look after Leopold.
Leopold lived less that one-half mile from where the body of Marcus Peoples was discovered in November 2011, two weeks after he was reported missing by his family.
His body will be sent to Little Rock for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
