  • The Donaldsonville Chamber of Commerce hosted and donated its first toy and coat drive for the 2013 Christmas season. The Chamber met on Dec. 17 at Wal-Mart and purchased over $7,000 in coats and toys for children in need. Allison Hudson, president of the Donaldsonville Chamber, wanted to do something to get the Chamber involved in giving back during the Christmas season. Working also with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Christmas Crusaders Program, Hudson wanted to do something in Donaldsonville that resembled that effort. On Dec. 20, the Chamber partnered with the Capitol City Family Health Center in Donaldsonville in handing out the toys and coats to the families in need. Donaldsonville Mayor Leroy Sullivan also made a surprise appearance as Santa Claus, with Donaldsonville Primary School Principal Mary McMahan dressed as Mrs. Claus, while Hudson and the Chamber’s Executive Director, Becky Katz, as elves. About 200 gift packages were delivered as all entities in Donaldsonville worked together to see the first event off to a great start.
