Plaquemine Senior High School welding students recently attended a field trip to Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. for Career Day. Students rotated through six learning stations including operating heavy machinery, welding, pipefitting, electrical, carpentry, and millwright. Above, Lawrence Wesley, Trevor Jones, and Quintrell Anderson, along with students from other high schools and a Lincoln Representative observe Adrian Alexis as he works at the computer-simulated welding station. Students are working towards certification and fabricate various products using scrap metal. Some of the projects they have completed include the book return bin for the school’s library, water cooler racks for the softball and baseball teams, large “P” “H” “S” display letters and the repairing of a soccer goal. In addition, they recently fabricated a bumper guard for the Plaquemine Caring Nursing Home.
