Deputies with the Ashley County Sheriff's Office attempted to arrest a suspect who decided he didn't want to go to jail, so Christopher Staley, 38, of Wilmer, Ark. resisted the deputies by fleeing. A high-speed chase ensued, with Morehouse Parish Deputies joining the chase at the state line on US 425. After turning onto a dead end road in Log Cabin, the suspect rammed into two sheriff's office units to get away and the chase continued through the parish. Staley was slowed down after running over a spike strip placed in the road he was traveling and he lost control of his vehicle as he neared the courthouse. Deputies and officers with the Bastrop Police Department were able to block Staley in in the parking lot of a local business, where he was taken into custody. Staley was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal property damage, three counts of aggravated obstruction of a highway, aggravated flight, two counts of aggravated battery of a police official, driving under suspension and driving while intoxicated.
