Santa Claus will be making an appearance this weekend at the Christmas parade- if it doesn't rain.

There is a chance for rain and sleet on Saturday, according to Chamber of Commerce Director Dorothy Ford the plan right now is to hope for the best.

"If it is raining when it's time for people to come out, we will probably be postponing it till next Saturday," Ford said.

For now though, the chamber board intends to continue on as planned.

The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. Sat. Dec. 7 at the Magnolia Shopping Center with the lineup beginning at 3 p.m. The theme this year is "The 12 Days of Christmas." Applications are available at the Chamber of Commerce office located at 110 N. Franklin Street in Bastrop or at the chamber's website at The deadline to register is 5 p.m. Thursday.

Entry fees are as follows:

Floats - $85

Vehicle - $30

Vehicles Carrying School Beauties, Homecoming Courts - $10

"We usually average about 15 to 20 floats based on previous years," Ford said.

Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 float winners, with first place receiving $150, second place receiving $100 and third place receiving $75. This year's sponsor is Community Trust Bank.
