The Fort Hero Veterans Barracks received a helping hand in the form of a donation from Home Depot
At the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Association meeting, held Monday night, Home Depot Manager Jeff Woods presented a $13,000 check to the association which will be used to paint the Barracks located in Bastrop as well as for other repairs.
"We really needed a punch like this .This is a good jump start and we got it from Home Depot and we are so happy we got it," NELVA President Al Sander said.
The association is also planning several fundraising activities to get the former Hill View Nursing Home on South Alvin Street updated and repaired in order for homeless veterans to have a place to stay.
"I hope everyone who sees this decides to help and pitch in," Woods said. "It may not be monetary, but it can be labor or volunteer projects, so anything they can do to help out would be great."
Monetary donations may be sent to N.E.L.V.A., P.O. Box 903 West Monroe, La. 71294. All donations are tax-deductible. For more information, contact Sanders at 557.4767 or Gary Littleton at 914.9789.
