Northeast Louisiana Master Gardeners will host The Fourth Annual Gardeners Spring Seminar: "Southern Birds and Blooms" on Jan. 18.

The featured speaker will be Melinda Myers, the contributing editor and columnist for "Birds and Blooms Magazine." Myers will present about “Beautiful, Easy and Affordable Landscape Makeovers.” In addition to a columnist and editor, Myers is also does a garden segment called “Melinda's Notes” that runs on local television stations. She has more that 25 years of horticultural experience with a master's degree in horticulture and experience as a horticulture instructor with tenure. She is also a certified arborist. She has penned over 30 books on gardening to-date.

There will also be three other topics on gardening with speakers including Robert Rickett, who will speak on “The Ruby-Throated Humming Bird”, Jimmy Dean, “The Bluebird Trail”, and Jeff Landry, “Growing Grapes in Louisiana”. The seminar will have vendors, a book signing for Myers' book “Can't Miss Small Space Gardening” which will also be available for purchase, free seeds and refreshments and door prizes.

The Master Gardener Program is sponsored by the LSU AgCenter, and the event is held in conjunction with the 2014 Ike Hamilton AG Expo. The event will be open to both novice as well as experienced gardeners. For more information, contact the LSU AgCenter at 323.2251 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
