  • At 4:17 a.m. Nov. 22, Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 2 east of US Highway 165.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling east on Louisiana Highway 2 when it drove off the left side of the road into a ditch and struck an embankment. The Chevrolet then began to roll over.
One occupant, 51-year-old Arthur Craft of Oak Grove, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. Craft suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office. The other occupant, 55-year-old David Sawyer of Oak Grove, was not wearing a seat belt and was also ejected. Sawyer suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. At this time Troopers have been unable to determine which occupant was the driver of the Chevrolet.
Impairment is use unknown. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
Troop F has investigated 41 fatal crashes which have resulted in 49 deaths so far this year.
