  • For the second year, Entergy is sponsoring the Morehouse Parish School Board Superintendent's Literacy Challenge.
The program is designed to increase access to books as it supports the mission of inspiring and motivating students to read every day. It began Sept. 9 and will continue until Nov. 22, after the Thanksgiving break.
Rewards and incentives will be given to participants with classroom winners, grade-level winners, school winners and district winners earning special ribbons or prizes.
Parents are encouraged to have children read at least 100 minutes each week, which is 20 minutes a day, five days a week. They are also encouraged to attend Book Fairs at their child's school. While some schools have already participated in the fairs, the following schools and fair dates are:
    Cherry Ridge Elementary, Oct. 21 - 25
    Morehouse Magnet, Oct. 7 - 11
    Pine Grove Elementary, Nov. 18 - 22
The individual schools receive 25 percent of the funds generated from the book fairs, which is used to purchase new books for the school's library.
"It is so good to have the collaboration of businesses and industry on this project, as it is so important for our students," said Dr. George Noflin Jr., Superintendent.
