Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha McGarity Carroll, age 100, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 in the Chapel of Golden Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff May officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, October 11 at Golden Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carroll, a homemaker and a resident of Bastrop, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Mrs. Carroll was a member of White Avenue Baptist Church, where she once served as a clerk and Sunday School Secretary. Mrs. Carroll was the first Meter Maid for the City of Bastrop, where she was employed with the Bastrop Police Department for 12 years. She was an avid fisherman and enjoyed baking cakes for others. Mrs. Carroll was also the Bastrop High School Valedictorian of her class. Mrs. Carroll was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Carroll; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horace McGarity; three brothers, four sisters and a great-grandson, Zachary Spencer.
Mrs. Carroll is survived by her children, Bill Carroll and wife Betty of Monroe, Johnny "Pete" Carroll of Monroe, Winnie Carroll Cole of Bastrop; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Carroll, Michael McCallum, R.C. Cole, J.C. Carroll, Michael Spencer, Scott Spencer, Ian Howse and Jacob Carroll.
