It was another successful weekend for high school football in the parish. The six schools went a combined 5-1.
Besides St. Amant's easy win over Lutcher, No. 9 East Ascension ran out to a 4-0 start by squeezing past a game Brother Martin squad 35-30 on Saturday.
The high-powered Spartan attack has now scored at least 35 points in all four of their games.
They'll be looking to improve to 5-0 this weekend as they travel to play Lutcher. East Ascension will be the third parish school Lutcher has faced all year as they were rolled over by Dutchtown in week one and St. Amant last week.
As for the Griffins, they made the long trip up north to Shreveport to face Captain Shreve. Dutchtown didn't let the long trip hamper them; they rolled to a 30-13 win to improve to 3-1.
The Griffins scored 27 points in the last three quarters. Kajuan Coleman led the way as he rushed for 87 yards and a score. Brandt Fritsche completed six of seven passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Dutchtown will now have to play 3-1 Rummel--the defending state champions and a team fresh off of hammering No. 5 Catholic 32-7. It was Rummel that ended the Griffins' season last year in the second round of the playoffs.
That game ended 21-10. Dutchtown will get to play them at home this time around.
In 3A, Donaldsonville was able to put an end to a two-game losing skid by rolling past 1A Southern Lab 40-20. The win allowed the Tigers to get their record back to .500.
They'll now try to win their second straight game this Friday night when they host a winless Independence squad.
Down in 1A, Ascension Catholic won their second straight game as they absolutely mauled False River Academy on Thursday night 55-7.
In the win, the Bulldogs piled up 255 rushing yards. Gilbert Allen led the way as he ran for 73 yards and a touchdown, and James Martin followed up his huge game against Christian Life with 72 yards and two scores.
Quarterback D.J. Latino added three touchdowns on the ground.
The win put Ascension Catholic at 3-1. They'll now have to step up in class to face 2A Episcopal on the road--a team that is a perfect 4-0 and a team that beat Ascension Catholic last year.
Ascension Christian was the only team from the parish to lose on Friday night. After winning their first game in over two years, they went on the road and got demolished by Madison Prep 47-7.
The Lions' only touchdown came when Kaleb Bledose connected with Kagan Carter for a 10-yard score.
Page 2 of 2 - The loss now puts Ascension Christian at 1-3 for the year. They will try to get back in the win column this Friday night when they host 2-2 Ascension Episcopal.
