  • After being one of just two 2A teams to defeat Rosepine last year, the Welsh Greyhounds (3-1, 0-0) are poised to host the Rosepine Eagles (2-2, 0-0) in a matchup of former district rivals Thursday at Welsh High School.
The two squads were a part of District 4-2A for the last two seasons, before Rosepine shifted to District 3-2A for this season as part of redistricting. Over the last two years, Rosepine is 0-2 against its former district opponent, losing 23-14 at home in 2012 and 43-0 in 2011 at Welsh.
The Greyhounds average roughly 18.5 points per game, while allowing just 16.5. Their highest scoring output of the season was in a season-opening 37-13 win over Oakdale (1-3), and they scored just three points in a 3-0 win over 3A South Beauregard (2-2) in Week 3. Defensively, their shutout over the Knights was their lowest points allowed of the season, with their highest coming in a 39-14 loss to 1A powerhouse Vermillion Catholic (4-0) in week two. Last week, the Greyhounds defeated 3A Iota (0-4), 23-14, but lost one of their top running backs, Cord Faul, to a broken tibia and fibula.
Rosepine, meanwhile, is coming off a 30-19 loss to Lake Arthur (4-0), where they managed just six first downs and committed nine penalties in the game. Stanley Hogan led Rosepine in rushing last Friday with 134 yards and two touchdowns; in four games this season, he has 345 yards, good for second in the parish, only behind Pickering's Daveon Banks. Noah Martin had 38 yards on 10 carries, and currently, he has 290 rushing yards on the season, good for third in the parish.
The Eagles will be looking for a rebound from last week's loss to Lake Arthur, and will hope to get that revenge Thursday when they travel to Welsh.
