A Crimestopper's tip resulted in the arrest of a Bastrop man wanted in connection with the Sept. 9 shooting at a local convenience store.

The initial call was received by the Bastrop Police Department around 10 p.m. Sept. 9. Capt. Gerald Boley responded to the call, where it was learned that a victim had been shot in the back and taken by his family to Morehouse General Hospital. Investigation into the shooting developed two suspects and warrants for their arrest were obtained. On Sept. 11, Detective Eric Newnum, along with Officer Danny Coronado, Sgt. Dennis Aswell and members of the North Louisiana Drug Enforcement Bureau apprehended Antonio Tyrone Battle Jr., 601 Pleasant Dr., Apt 3B, on charges of attempted second degree murder, conspiracy and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The second suspect, identified as Malcolm Tyrone Peoples Jr., 910 Roberts, remained at large until Tuesday, when a tip to the Bastrop Police Department contained information into his whereabouts.

Officers went to a residence on Kammell Street and located Peoples hiding inside. He was taken into custody and placed in the Morehouse Parish jail on the charges of attempted second degree murder and conspiracy to commit second degree murder, with bonds of $500,000 set for each charge.
