H.V. Adams parent and Chase employee Tamika Farrell recently submitted a grant to Chase for an outdoor learning center at the school.
The grant, which covers the materials needed to build the outdoor learning center and supplies volunteers assist with planting the garden was awarded to the school and on Sept. 14, Farrell, school faculty members and volunteers began the project.
Odis Hill, Southern Ag Agent, was on-hand to assist with the garden, which will provide learning experiences in math and science.
"Children can practice their social and life skills and learn how to grow healthy food and eat well," Farrell said. "This learning lab can take steps towards combining multidisciplinary skills of math by calculating and predicting heights of plants, art, science and writing."
The project is an extension of what Hill began with the 4-H program at the school.
