With one man arrested, the BPD seeks another suspect

A convicted felon faces more jail time after being arrested Wednesday evening by Bastrop Police Detective Eric Newnum on charges of attempted second degree murder.

A call was received around 10 p.m. Monday night regarding a shooting which had occurred at a local convenience store. Capt. Gerald Boley responded to the call, where it was learned that a victim had been shot in the back and taken by his family to Morehouse General Hospital. He was later transferred to a hospital in Monroe.

Extensive investigation into the shooting developed two suspects and warrants for their arrest were obtained. On Wednesday, Newnum, along with Officer Danny Coronado, Sgt. Dennis Aswell and members of the North Louisiana Drug Enforcement Bureau were able to apprehend Antonio Tyrone Battle Jr., 601 Pleasant Dr., Apt 3B, on charges of attempted second degree murder, conspiracy and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The investigation is ongoing and the police department is looking for Tyrone Peoples Jr. in connection with the shooting. Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of Peoples may contact Crimestoppers at 281.005 or the Bastrop Police Department at 281.1322. Crimestoppers will pay up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in felony cases.

If convicted on the attempted murder charge, Battle faces up to 50 years in prison. He is now behind bars at the Morehouse Parish Jail with a $1.2 million bond.
