  • Jay Wilson doesn't need a second chance to make a first impression at Central Arkansas. Exactly one game into his college career, UCA fans can't wait to see more of the true freshman wide receiver from Bastrop.
All Wilson did in his collegiate debut was score three touchdowns in the Bears' 58-7 season-opening rout of Incarnate Word on Thursday night. For his efforts, Wilson was recognized as the Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.
Wilson scored his first career touchdown on a 29-yard pass from quarterback Wynrick Smothers with 7:36 remaining in the second quarter, staking the Bears to a 28-0 lead.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Wilson hauled in a 36-yard TD pass from Taylor Reed.
After the visiting Cardinals broke up the shutout late in the fourth quarter, Wilson put an exclamation point on his introductory performance with a 93-yard kickoff return.
Wilson's final line: four receptions, 105 yards, 2 TDs; a 93-yard kickoff return; two punt returns for 16 yards; 215 all-purpose yards, three touchdowns.
Two more former Bastrop Rams, senior RaDarius Winston and sophomore Earl Ross Downs contributed to the Bears' victory. Winston, a former free safety, was credited with two tackles in his first start at strongside linebacker. Downs, a backup center, helped pave the way for 537 yards (381 passing, 156 rushing) of total offense.
    Updating some more former Rams:

DENZEL DEVALL began his sophomore season at Alabama by making two tackles, including one for a 1-yard loss, as the two-time defending national champion Crimson Tide stuffed Virginia Tech 35-10 Saturday in the Georgia Dome.

ROD MOORE (a.k.a. Rodriguez) carried four times for 13 yards and had one reception for minus-1 yard as the Cincinnati Bearcats crushed Purdue 42-7 Saturday. It was Moore's debut with the Bearcats after two seasons at East Mississippi Community College.

KYRON THOMPSON, a former Bastrop High cornerback, has enrolled at Grambling and reportedly plans to join the Tigers in the spring. Thompson played for Delta State last season.

MARSHAY GREEN was waived as the Indianapolis Colts trimmed their roster down to 53 players on Saturday. Playing in all four of the Colts' preseason games, Green recorded 11 tackles and a sack.
Green has spent the majority of his three-year NFL career on the Arizona Cardinals and Colts' practice squads. Appearing in one game for the Colts last season, he made three tackles.

RUEBEN RANDLE closed out the preseason with seven receptions for 64 yards. Randle and the New York Giants open the regular season at Dallas on Sunday night at 7:30.
