University of Central Arkansas wide receiver/return specialist Jay Wilson was named the Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

Wilson, a true freshman from Bastrop, returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown on Thursday night in UCA's season-opening 58-7 victory over Incarnate Word at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.

Wilson finished the game with 215 all-purpose yards, including 93 on kickoff returns, 17 on punt returns and 105 on receptions. Wilson caught four passes, two of which were touchdowns of 29 yards from Wynrick Smothers and 39 yards from Taylor Reed. Wilson's kickoff return came after UIW's only touchdown of the night late in the fourth quarter.

The Bears, ranked sixth in FCS, travel to Boulder, Colo., this weekend for a matchup with FBS Colorado, a 41-27 winner over in-state rival Colorado State on Sunday.
