Cenla Christian 52, Prairie View 0
Khlynd Joiner and Kofi Bieniemy scored three touchdowns apiece as Cenla Christian eased past Prairie View 52-0 Friday night at Wildcat Field on the campus of Louisiana College.
Wasting no time, the Lions roared out to a 32-0 first quarter lead. Quarterback Payton Gauthier threw touchdown passes of 47 yards to Joiner, 80 yards to Bieniemy and 95 yards to Joiner. Dezmond Eddie then broke off a 64-yard run and Joiner scored again on a 55-yard pick-6.
“Cenla's a good football team. If they stay healthy, I definitely think they're going to make some noise in 1A,” Prairie View coach Reagan Morrison said.
Prairie View (0-2) was unable to cope with the Lions' speed.
“They got their players in space,” Morrison said. “At times, we didn't do a very good job of tackling. Then, there were times when we couldn't match up with their speed, coverage-wise.”
Bienemy's 5-yard reception and Jeremiah Jefferson's 56-yard jaunt padded the Lions' halftime lead to 46-0.
Bienemy's 44-yard TD catch in the third quarter wrapped up the scoring.
Gauthier finished the evening 10-of-14 for 323 yards and five touchdowns as the Lions (1-1) rolled up 444 yards of total offense. Bienemy caught five passes for 148 yards and the three scores.
Beset by seven turnovers, the Spartans never got untracked offensively.
Hunter Carpenter's 59-yard pass from Lucas Crockett gave the Spartans their best scoring opportunity.
Sophomore Nolan Whorton was a bright spot offensively with a 30-yard catch and three carries for a team-high 29 yards. Carpenter added four carries for 22 stripes.
Cole Bryan and Chyenne Mayo had two receptions apiece for the Spartans for 25 and 21 yards, respectively.
“I told the kids this one's behind us and it's time to start looking forward to next week,” Morrison said, referring to Friday night's home game against Claiborne Academy.
