Funeral services for Mr. Homer Brister will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Central Missionary Baptist Church in Bastrop with the Reverend Barry Brister officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, August 30, at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop.
Homer Dean Brister was born March 31, 1930 in Sikes to the late John Homer Brister and Yancy Holley Brister. Mr. Brister passed away August 27, 2013 at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Mary Beth Brister; a son, Robert Delane Gentry; and grandson, Robby Gentry.
Homer Brister was a member of the Gateway Assembly in Sterlington and the Mt. Gerzim Masonic Lodge in Bastrop. As part of the greatest generation, he served his country as a member of the United States Army. After his discharge, he attended barber school in New Orleans and later operated Brister's Barbershop in Bastrop for 64 years.
Mr. Homer will be remembered for his devotion and love for his wife, his children and their families. He was a loyal friend to many.
Mr. Brister is survived by his wife, Pearline Thompson Brister; his two sons, Homer Dwain Brister and his wife, Beverly and Barry Brister and his wife, Tami; two brothers, Stanley Brister and his wife Evelyn and Bobby Brister and his wife, Laurene; and two sisters, Virginia Hoover and Audrey Pesnell and her husband Harold. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Zachary Brister, Jacob Brister, James Moore, Eric Bush, Donny Hackler, Gene Francois, James Wiggins, Bobby Priest and Zebulon Gentry.
