  • Students can get free tutoring through an online service provided by the State Library of Louisiana, in partnership with Morehouse Parish Library. HomeworkLouisiana offers free online tutoring and academic resources from Tutor.com for Louisiana residents from kindergarten students to college students. The services can be accessed from a Louisiana public library or any computer or mobile device by visiting homeworkla.org. Students traveling out of the state must have a Louisiana public library card to access the service. Students may receive help in math, science, social studies or English from a live expert tutor from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Tutors are from a network of 1,800 plus through Tutor.com's online tutoring service who are certified teachers, professors, graduate school students, university students and professionals who are experts in their field. Each tutor is required to pass a third party background check. A key feature of the site is iProofPoint Real-Time Writing Center which enables students to upload documents to receive a live review, edits and writing strategy. The HomeworkLouisiana Online Classroom is also optimized to enhance a one-on-one learning session. It includes real-time chat, an interactive white board, math tools that include drag and drop shapes and commonly used equations, graphing paper and more. Students and tutors may also share files or browse educational resources on the web. Students also have access to homework and studying resources 24/7. The SkillsCenter Resource Library includes thousands of vetted resources for independent study such as tutorials, videos and study guides that map to the subjects. Job seekers may also receive one-on-one, real-time assistance with their job search. Online tutors are available to help navigate online job sites, complete applications, write/review resumes and cover letters and even help them practice for an interview. Funding for the service is provided by the State of Louisiana as part of the Louisiana Libraries: Connecting People to Their Potential project through an $8.8 million BroadbandUSA grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. For more information about the program, contact the library at 281.3696.
