Oak Woods residents have been working to put together shoeboxes for kids in need. Operation Christmas Child is a program through nondenominational evangelical Christian organization Samaritan's Purse International Relief that works to give children in need gifts. Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced their testament of God’s love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Samaritan’s Purse works with local churches and ministry partners to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ. In Bastrop, Cherry Ridge Baptist Church has been working with the organization to help create some of these shoeboxes with donations. One of the RNs at Oak Woods is a member of Cherry Ridge and suggested the idea as a way for the nursing home residents to have a chance to help. For the last two Fridays they have been working, the residents have already put together 33 shoeboxes. For more information on the program, visit the website samaritanspurse.org.
