It was on Aug. 15, at approximately 12:30 a.m., that a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputy conducted a stop on an SUV at the intersection of N. Claiborne and W. Burton streets in Sulphur for a traffic violation. When the deputy reportedly approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver — Harris — and passenger — Mercer — they allegedly began to act suspiciously. After reportedly receiving consent from Harris, the deputy conducted a search of the SUV and allegedly recovered two bags of marijuana, three bags of crystal meth, 18 Klonopin pills, five Xanax pills, a postal digital scale, two spoons, and five syringes, three of which were filled with a cloudy liquid.
Harris and Mercer were then arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.
Judge Wilford Carter set Harris' bond at $20,000 and set Mercer's bond at $10,000.
CPSO Cpl. Randall Gibbons was the arresting deputy.
