Tuning up for the 2013 season, the Prairie View Spartans travel to Rayville on Friday night for the Riverfield Jamboree.
Riverfield and Tallulah take the field at 7 p.m., followed by Prairie View vs. Tallulah and Prairie View vs. Riverfield. Each game will consist of one 15-minute quarter.
Prairie View will play both teams during the regular season, visiting Riverfield on Sept. 27 and entertaining Tallulah for homecoming on Oct. 4. With Riverfield moving up from Class 1A this season, the Raiders and Spartans are district rivals once again.
After practicing among themselves during preseason camp, Prairie View coach Reagan Morrison says his team is ready to line up against some in different colored jerseys.
“I know the kids are looking forward to it,” Morrison said. “I think they're ready to strap it on Friday night.”
With the exception of Wednesday's practice, Morrison says he is pleased with what the Spartans have accomplished, thus far.
“I had been pleased with the work ethic and attitude up until Wednesday,” Morrison said. “I don't know if it was because it was the first full day of school or what, but we had a real sluggish practice.”
Prairie View is led by a trio of seniors — quarterback Dylan Carroll and wide receiver/defensive backs Matt Reed and Chyenne Mayo.
Opening regular season play at home, the Spartans are pitted against Riverdale on Friday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m.
