  • Area schools hold open house events

  • Open houses at various schools across Morehouse Parish are planned for the month of August.

  • Beekman Charter School had an open house night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 and has another one planned for Aug. 15. If they missed the first one, parents can still attend the second open house. There will be a short informational meeting in the gym followed by a chance for parents to tour the school, see their child's classrooms and visit with their teachers. Pine Grove will have its Back to School Night from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at the school. Parents are invited to go to a short informational meeting, meet the new principal, teachers and staff. They will also be able to meet their child's teacher and visit classrooms. Morehouse Junior High School will have its sixth grade orientation from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15. The parents and students will be given a tour of the campus. Back to School Night will be at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 29. The faculty will be presenting information for the upcoming school year and different speakers will also be presenting. Cherry Ridge Elementary will host a back to school night from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, August 16. The night will be a chance for parents to meet faculty and staff and get information on campus activities and planned curriculum. Light refreshments will be served. Parents will get a chance to visit their children's classroom and talk with their teachers. H.V. Adams' Meet and Greet will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 17. Families can go out to the school and meet and greet with faculty and staff. Parents will be presented with news, strategies and programs that the school has planned. They will also discuss academic goals for the school year, the Title I program, the 21st Century Grant (which will provide after-school tutoring) and more. Door prizes will be given out and they will be serving lunch. Oak Hill will have its open house at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 18. General assembly will be in the cafeteria followed by classroom visitations. Delta Magnet School of Academic and Performing Arts will have its Back to School Night at 6 p.m. Aug. 19 in the school's cafeteria. There will be five parts called “5 Rounds of Informative Information and Fun.” Round one is introduction of staff. Round two is academics. Round three is athletics. Round four is arts/cultural enhancements. Round five is general information and classroom visits. Southside Elementary School will hold Back to School Night at 5 p.m. Aug. 20. All parents and students are invited to go out and meet their children's teachers and principal. Attendants will also receive important information concerning the school year and are asked to wear their bright colors and flowered shirts. Morehouse Magnet School will have its open house at 6 p.m. Aug. 20. Parents will get a chance to meet and greet with teachers and faculty. An overview of school information and policies will be given. Someone from Title 1 will stop by and the new band director will be introduced. Prairie View Academy will have its open house at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 20. Parents and students will get a chance to meet with faculty and staff. At 6:30 p.m., the school will host Meet the Spartans. Entry fee is $5. Players and spirit groups will be introduced. There will be a fish fry in the cafeteria. Fish plates will be $6 each. The Mike Mckenzie Band will perform. Bastrop High School will have its Meet the Rams at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Morehouse Alternative School will host their Back to School Night at 5 p.m. Aug. 27. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend. The school will have a presentation from Title I, introduce staff and classroom visitations.
