Bastrop JROTC sends cadets to leadership camp
Eight members of the Bastrop High School JROTC program were able to attend the Louisiana Army Junior ROTC Leadership recently at Camp Beauregard. The summer camp had cadets in attendance from over 50 Louisiana schools, with each school able to send eight cadets. Chandler Fagan, Brejon Morgan, Jacob Vancoevering, Joshua Jackson, Jorena Green, Allison Hill, Shangarica Tennant and Kayla Brown are members of the BHS JROTC who took advantage of the opportunity to attend the camp and participate in activities such as rappelling, rope bridge building, confidence course, water safety, CPR training, athletics/recreational activities and team building. Fagan, who will be a sophomore at BHS in the fall, was selected as the “Cadet of the Cycle,” which is an honor classifying him out of the approximately 400 cadets participating as the best Cadet at summer camp. He was also named as the Alpha Company Outstanding Cadet. "During this weeklong military style camp, Cadet Fagan demonstrated excellent leadership skills, tremendous morale, poise under challenging and stressful situations and participated in a question and answer session with three high ranking US Army military personnel," Stephen Jeselink COL (R), US Army and JROTC Senior Army Instructor said. " In turn, he was chosen as the best US Army JROTC Cadet in Louisiana and represents Bastrop High School, the Morehouse Parish School District, the city of Bastrop and the state of Louisiana with distinction." Fagan is the son of Tommy and Anita Fagan.
