Cherry Ridge Elementary will host a back to school night from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, August 16

The night will be a chance for parents to meet faculty and staff and get information on campus activities and planned curriculum. Light refreshments will be served. Principal Katherine Adcock Fonte will welcome students back and introduce faculty and staff. A guest from the central office will give Title 1 updates. Instructional Facilitator Vanessa Scates will give an overview of campus activities. Some of the parent activities they have planned include literacy night, math night and leap night. “We will have challenges, but we will face them head on and do the best we can,” Scates said. “We want to be a flagship school, a model school. We want to push students and teachers to their highest potential.” Parents will get a chance to visit their children's classroom and talk with their teachers. They will also have the opportunity to ask questions. The school just got 30 new computers which will be used to teach accelerated reading in the classrooms. This year, the school will have new curriculum called Engage NY. The new lesson plans will have more rigorous and relevant activities. The teachers are departmentalized so that each teacher is teaching in their area of strength. They will also use integrated co-teaching so that students with disabilities are educated with age appropriate peers in the general education classroom. “We are all about teamwork,” Fonte said. Regular schooldays will begin August 19.
