Parents and citizens will have the opportunity to meet and speak with the new administration of Bastrop High School Monday night.
Newly named Principal Dr. David Nordman said the gathering would be a time for the public to put a face to the names of the new administration, many of whom have taught in the Morehouse Parish School system in other capacities. "This is just an informal way of us being able to meet the citizens as well as faculty and parents before the new school years starts," Nordman said. Nordman, who most recently worked as the supervisor of secondary curriculum and instruction for the parish, has also served as Principal at the Morehouse Magnet School. He will lead a team of assistant principals which includes Rene Fonte and Helen I.P. Smith as well as Lori Wallace, who will be the main administrator for the Freshman Academy. Fonte has worked within the school system for many years. He was the Principal at Morehouse Junior High before accepting his new position as Vice-Principal. Smith, a Bastrop native, has most recently been an administrator in East Carroll Parish. She is returning to her hometown as Vice-Principal. Wallace, who has been at Bastrop High School for several years, will take over the Freshman Academy this fall. She was previously the Principal at East Side Elementary before coming to BHS. The open house will be held at 6 p.m. in the school's cafeteria and the public is invited to attend.
