A fire was called in to the Bastrop Fire Department at 2:21 p.m. on July 16.
The fire was at a local residence on the corner of Taylor Street and McFee. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:24 p.m. and had the fire under control in about 20 minutes. No one was at home when the fire started. The cause is still under investigation by Fire Prevention Officer and Arson Investigator Thomas Crowder. “Thanks to Mr. Crowder, we have determined so far that the fire appears to have started in the back of the house,” Bastrop Fire Chief Eric Montgomery said, “It appears to have been started by an overheated extension cord, but we cannot yet say for certain.”
