  • Funeral services for Mr. Eugene Albert "Tater" Harper, 81 of Bastrop, Louisiana, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove. Reverend Doctor Curtis Carroll will officiate. Interment will follow in the Kilbourne Cemetery in Kilbourne. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Oak Grove.

  • Mr. Harper passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at Overton Brooks V. A. Medical Center in Shreveport. He was a lifelong sweet potato producer in both West Carroll and Morehouse Parishes. Mr. Harper served for four years in the U. S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Edwina Robertson Harper; his father, Bertran Ordway Harper; his mother, Gertie Ada Meeks Harper; and step mother, Annie Evans Harper. He is survived by his daughter, Toni Calhoun of Oak Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Clay Hamilton of Oak Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Tom Lawrence of Pearl, Miss.; son, Gary B. Harper of Bastrop; grandson, Andy Calhoun of San Antonio, Texas; grandson, Tim Calhoun of Houston, Texas; grandson, Kelly Gulka of Oak Grove; granddaughter and her husband, Kristy and Bobby Mounts of Calhoun; grandson, Logan Hamilton of Niles, Mich.; grandson, Nicholas Lawrence of Pearl, Miss.; granddaughter, Victoria Lawrence of Pearl, Miss.; grandson, Landon Harper of Monroe; grandson, Kyle Harper of Guam; great grandson, Paxton Mounts of Calhoun; great granddaughter, Paisley Mounts of Calhoun; great grandson, Noah Allen of Monroe; twin brother, Alfred Harper of Odessa, Texas; sister, Marie Welch of Oak Grove; and sister Reba Schrock of Odessa, Texas. Pallbearers are: Jody "J.J." Robertson, Scottie Williams, James Williams, Shannon Layman, Larry Williams, Dean Williams and McClendon Williams. Honorary Pallbearer is Johnny Robertson. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 between the hours of 5 to 8 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.
