A Bastrop man is behind bars after being accused of kidnapping his girlfriend.
Morehouse Parish Sheriff Mike Tubbs said his office received a call from a female on July 4, stating that Stacey Matthews, 6192 Van Buren Rd., had held her against her will following an argument. The victim told deputies she was struck several times by Matthews with his fists as well as with a cord. She was able to leave the residence after Matthews went to sleep and flee to a local department store, where she called for help.
Deputies noted several injuries to the victim's body and were able to locate Matthews, placing him under arrest on charges of aggravated battery and aggravated kidnapping. He was transported to the MPSO jail and had bonds set at $20,000 for kidnapping and $10,000 for battery.
If Matthews is convicted on the kidnapping charge, he faces life imprisonment at hard labor without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
