Bob Perry was forced to change partners at the 11th hour for the 42nd annual Firecracker 4-Ball at the Morehouse Country Club. Tee times are 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Perry originally planned to team with Southeastern Oklahoma State University teammate Greyden Blevins. When 2011 Texas Junior College state champion withdrew from the tournament due to a dental emergency, Perry enlisted Cal Clyde of Tyler to make the trip east.
Perry, who won the Bill Carpenter Memorial Individual at the MCC in June, is from Fort Worth.
A transfer from Dallas Baptist University, Clyde is entering his junior season at Texas Wesleyan.
Nathan Anderson and Austin "Dub" West, a pair of former Texas Wesleyan Rams, have also joined the Firecracker fray.
Anderson is a former Jack Nicklaus Award winner as the top NAIA player in the nation and finished second at the Texas State Amateur Tournament two weeks ago. Like Anderson, West is from Ft. Worth.
All four Texans are making their first Firecracker appearances.
With the addition of the two Lone Star state teams, this appears to be one of the tournament's strongest fields in recent years.
"I'm excited about the tournament," Perry said. "It looks like we're going to have a very competitive field."
Other teams to watch in the championship flight include defending champions Alex Malmay and Dale Cagnolatti, Hunter Buatt and Steve Freeland, Bob Cooper and Stan Humphries, Mike Sebren and Jay Yeldell, Joseph "Boo" Waller and Luke Cook, Brett Clausing and Chase Bostick, Mark Counts and Danny McMillan and the father/son due of Wyatt and Joel Boyette.
