Pitching Machine Sub-District Tournament
Closing out the Sub-District Pitching Machine (ages 7-8) Tournament at Carter Parker on a high note, the Morehouse All-Stars won their final two games to finish 2-2 in the round robin format.
After dropping a 13-12 verdict to eventual tournament champion East Ouachita North (Sterlington) on Thursday and bowing to East Ouachita South 9-3 Friday, Morehouse won both of its Saturday games, edging West Monroe South in a 7-6 nailbiter and upending West Ouachita American 11-1.
Morehouse 11, West Ouachita American 1
Pounding out 17 hits, Morehouse eased past West Ouachita American.
West Ouachita grabbed an early 1-0 lead on consecutive singles by Owen Canady, Ryan Stevenson and Denver Lowe.
Morehouse answered with two in the bottom of the first, four in the second and five in the third.
Cole Hopkins led off the Morehouse first with a base hit and Zane Morgan singled with one down. One out later, Jacob McKoin doubled home the go-ahead run.
Doubles by Connor Lively and Franklin Hyde highlighted the second as Morehouse opened up a 6-1 lead.
Jakobe Edmonds' two-run home run sparked Morehouse's five-run third.
McKoin and Lively doubled and singled for Morehouse. Morgan, Xavier Harris, Noah Files and Brennen Tackett supplied two singles apiece, Edmonds homered, Hyde doubled and Hopkins, Maddox King and Dylan Downs singled.
Canady, Stevenson and Lowe had two singles and Barrett Jordan and Wyatt Haley collected base hits for the Chiefs.
Morehouse 7, West Monroe South 6
Franklin Hyde's walkoff double in the bottom of the fifth gave Morehouse a dramatic victory over West Monroe South.
Dylan Downs smashed a leadoff double to start the Morehouse fifth and Hyde followed with the game-winning hit.
West Monroe went up 2-0 in the top of the first.
Morehouse cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame when Cole Hopkins singled and scored on Zane Morgan's one-out double.
It remained 2-1 until Morehouse struck for five in the fourth to grab its first lead, 6-2.
Consecutive two-out hits by Jakob McKoin, Maddox King, Xavier Harris, Noah Files and Brennen Tackett keyed the uprising.
West Monroe tied the game with a four-spot in the top of the fifth.
Harris and Files contributed two singles apiece for Morehouse, Morgan, Downs and Hyde doubled and Hopkins, Caden Lester, McKoin, King and Tackett singled.
West Monroe received a double from Gabe Fletcher and base hits from Jackson Green, Beaux Bethea, Seth Clampit, Ryden Hamilton, Kayden Miller, Cooper Simmons, Austin Fryer and Cory Edwards.
East Ouachita South 9, Morehouse 3
Karson Trichel pounded out three hits as East Ouachita South handled Morehouse.
Settling the issue early, East Ouachita South built a 7-0 lead with one in the top of the first, three in the second and three more in the third.
Joining Trichel in East Ouachita South's 16-hit production were Taylor Sikes with a double and a single, Phillip Bradford and Cason Deville with two singles and Levi Redding, Parker Whetstone, Caden McCarthy, Jacob Lilley, Garrison Gilstrap, Dakota Holdiness and Jake Balsomo with one hit each.
Maddox King tripled and singled for Morehouse, Brennen Tackett and Connor Lively rapped two singles and Zane Morgan, Jakobe Edmonds and Franklin Hyde singled.
