  • Police seek leads

  • Three Bastrop men are behind bars following their arrest on Monday for breaking into a closed business.

  • Bastrop Police Chief Downey Black said the department received a call at 11:20 a.m., June 24 regarding three men seen entering the old Hillview Nursing Home building on S. Alvin. When officers arrived at the building, they noticed the front door open and a search revealed three men hiding throughout the building as well as bolt cutters and a bag of tools. They also noticed some of the electrical wiring had been cut.
    Officers placed Virgil Leavell Jones, Telly B. Martin and Rayshawn Martin under arrest on charges of simple burglary and conspiracy. The trio was taken to the Morehouse Parish jail.
    The department also made an arrest stemming from an assault complaint.
    A complaint was received at 10:44 a.m., June 22 regarding a person being hit by a vehicle at a residence on E. Madison. Officers arrived and questioned the victim as well as witnesses, who told them LaShonda McKinney had hit the victim with her car following an argument between the two. The victim was transported to a hospital in Monroe for injuries substained.
    McKinney went to the Police Department June 24 and turned herself in on a charge of aggravated second degree battery. She is also wanted on felony drug charges out of Texas.
    The department is looking for information regarding the whereabouts of Marcus L. Bolden, 28 year old black male.
    Bolden is wanted for two counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile, following a complaint in which Bolden allegedly exposed himself to two juveniles. The felony charges carry a bond of $50,000 on each count.
    Police are also seeking information regarding the break-in of an area jewelry store. Various items of jewelry were taken from the break-in, which occurred on June 18.
