"We have received some complaints about citizens getting phone calls from someone claiming to be with the State Firefighters Association and trying to raise money," Black said. "These calls are not endorsed by the City and are a scam."
In other news from the police department, officers are looking into a burglary of a local jewelry store and the attempted burglary of a second jewelry store.
The break-ins occurred during the early morning hours of June 18 and an assortment of gold jewelry and watches were taken. H.V. Adams Elementary School was also broken into overnight, and an inventory of the school's property is taking place to establish if anything was taken.
Investigators with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office are looking for Tommy E. Kendall, 48, in reference to a residential burglary in which several firearms were taken. Kendall is also wanted on warrants for bank fraud in Morehouse Parish and for traffic violations in Ouachita Parish.
Investigators are also looking for information in the theft of a child's 49 cc Dirt Runner motorcycle, which was taken from a residence on Bayou Acres Drive. The motorcycle is red and white in color with a black seat. The back of the front fender of the cycle is broken off.
