Now a member of the New York Giants, former Bastrop Ram and LSU Tiger Rueben Randle will conduct a free football camp at Bastrop High.

The Rueben Randle Football Camp will be held Saturday, June 22 at the Bastrop High football stadium. Youth ages 8-18 are eligible to attend the free camp. Registration is from 7:30-9 a.m. the day of the event, with the camp to follow from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Online registration is being conducted at

Besides Randle, guests speakers will include former Olympic silver medalist high jumper Hollis Conway, National Scouting reporter Clay Parker and other NFL players.

A former Bastrop High Parade All-American, Randle helped the Rams to three consecutive Class 4A state titles from 2005-07 and played quarterback for the 2008 state semifinalist squad.

Selected in the second round of the 2012 draft out of LSU, Randle caught 19 passes for 298 yards (15.7 yards per catch) and three touchdowns as a rookie for the New York Giants last season. He also returned 15 punts for a 7.2-yard average.

With Hakeem Nicks absent for undisclosed reasons and Victor Cruz holding out, Randle made an impression on the Giants' staff during mini-camp, which drew to a close Thursday.

“Not only did (Randle) grow, he kind of became the bell cow of the receiving corps,” offensive coordintor Kevin Gilbride told the team's web site, “He was first in line. He did all of those things. That was not what we saw last year; not by a long shot.”

Randle and the Giants report for training camp in late July, before opening the preseason on the road vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, Aug. 10.
