Former Bastrop High wide receiver Jay Wilson will play in the 11th annual Louisiana-Texas all-star game before reporting to Central Arkansas.
Bastrop wide receiver Jay Wilson will play in the 11th annual Bayou Bowl on Saturday in Baytown, Texas. Kickoff time for the Louisiana-Texas all-star game is 7 p.m. at Stallworth Stadium.
Wilson is joined on the team from northeast Louisiana by defensive end Nathan Johnson and defensive back Demon Baker of Neville and defensive lineman DeMarius Lavender of Richwood.
Neville assistant Brett Lemoine is Louisiana's head coach.
Texas roster is headlined by wide receivers Caleb Hobbs and John Leday, a pair of Houston signees.
Texas leads the series 5-4-1, with last year's game ending in a 23-23 draw. Louisiana won the 2011 contest 30-23, snapping the Texans' three-game winning streak.
A three-year starter for the Rams, Wilson finished his career with 207 receptions for 3,270 yards and 45 touchdowns.
As a senior, the 5-8, 165-pounder was named first-team All-State after catching 79 passes for 1,343 yards and 21 scores. He also returned 16 kickoffs for a 20.1-yard average, including a 91-yard TD runback vs. Neville.
Wilson was a two-time, first-team All-District honoree in basketball. He averaged 19 points per game, with 68 3-pointers and 3.8 steals as a senior.
Following the Bayou Bowl, Wilson will report to the University of Central Arkansas for preseason football workouts.
