  • Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Hatten Gewin will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013 in the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.

  • . The Rev. Kyle Peters will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Christ Church Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
    Marie Hatten Gewin was born September 13, 1924 in West Monroe and she passed away May 20, 2013 at Morehouse General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Hatten and Florence May Hatten, and by her sister, Velda Beavers.
    Mrs. Gewin was a longtime member of the Cherry Ridge Baptist Church and an active member of the Berean Sunday School Class and Keenagers. She also served her church as a member of both the Sanctuary choir and Keenagers choir.
    Mrs. Gewin is survived by her three children, Ron Gewin and wife, Peggy of Round Rock, Texas, Jerry Gewin of Bastrop and Rita Daniels and husband Davy of Mer Rouge; her grandchildren, Colby Daniels, Stacy Lee, Kevin Gewin, Kris Gewin and Kim Gewin; and great-grandchildren, Drake, Fisher, Kennedy, Abby, Hayden, Chance, Conner, Jacob, Carson and Kameron.
    Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Nugent, Lynn Sanders, Jerry DeVille, Eugene Copeland, Floyd Tubbs and Mike Gilly.
    For those who wish the family suggest planned memorials be made to the Cherry Ridge Baptist Church.
    The family of Marie Gewin wishes to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff of the Oak Woods Home for the Elderly for caring for mother for the last six years. Also, a special thank you to Mrs. Alma Plumley for her love and dedication to our mother. You kept her laughing and extended her quality of life.
