As schools are letting out across the parish, parents may be turning their thoughts to inexpensive vacations or day trips.
One of the cleanest state parks around is right here in Morehouse Parish at Chemin-A-Haut and the Office of State Parks just announced that the swimming pool will be opening Saturday, May 25 for the Memorial Day weekend. It will be closed May 28 and 29 for maintenance and will reopen for the duration of the summer from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Certified lifeguards are on site during pool hours to monitor swimmers. Swimmers must wear proper swimming attire and children can not be left unattended.
Chemin-A-Haut has more to offer than just a pool, though. There are two playgrounds, a ball field, a sand volleyball court, several walking trails, a nature center and the Big Slough Lake. Kayaks are available for rent for $20 a day, which includes a lifejacket and paddle.
Overnight accommodations eight two bedroom cabins, six one bedroom cabins, 26 campsites and group camp which will sleep 38. There is also horse trailer parking and campgrounds as well as a meeting hall, picnic areas and three covered pavilions.
