Oak Woods of Mer Rouge Rehab and Wellness held a week of activities for the residents and staff to celebrate National Nursing Home Week.
On Monday, they had their annual baseball game with the residents and employees. The residents also attended the parish wide balloon release with several other nursing homes.
On Tuesday, they had a drive in theatre.
Wednesday, they had 50's day with their old fashion soda shop.
On Thursday, they had their Mer Rouge Fun, Run, Ride, or Walk Event. The residents joined the employees in the walk this year. They had special t-shirts made with a B embossed on the left sleeve in honor of the victims of the Boston bombings.
Friday's special event was a carnival day.
Oak Woods is a nursing home facility at 1400 Davenport Ave in Mer Rouge. They are a nonprofit organization sponsored by the Mer Rouge Lions Club. They provide extended stay nursing care to seniors with varying levels of disabilities. They have a secure alzheimer's/dementia unit. They have occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy and recreational therapy to meet the needs of all residents. Their outpatient therapy now features a new outpatient behavioral health program. Other features include yoga instruction, walking club, cooking classes, art classes and pet therapy.
