  • Quarterback Christian Doaty's improved passing touch has been one of the main highlights of Bastrop High's spring football camp.
“Doaty has really been throwing the ball wall, which brings us another dimension,” Bastrop coach Thomas Bachman said.
Due to a lack of depth at the position, Doaty has had plenty of work this spring.
“He's had to throw a lot of balls because we are so limited at the quarterback spot,” Bachman said.
As the backup to J-Man Davis last season, Doaty appeared in nine of the Rams' 12 games, with one start, as a sophomore. He completed 23-of-41 passes (.561 completion percentage) for 418 yards with six touchdowns and two picks.
EARLY PRACTICE: With school out Monday, the Rams took the field at 1 p.m. and practiced for about two hours.
Getting back into the regular routine, the Rams will start at approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
GAME TIME: Bastrop will conclude spring drills with a scrimmage at Ouachita on Thursday afternoon. Starting time is set for 5 p.m.
BACK ON BOARD: Marcus Yanez has rejoined the Rams as defensive coordinator, a position he held in 2011, before assuming the head coaching duties at Lake Providence last season.
A former All-State linebacker and punter for the Rams, Yanez signed with LSU and finished his playing career at Grambling.
ALUMNI: Former Rams attending Monday's practice included (but were not necessarily limited to) Darren Anderson, Denzel Devall, Alex Jones, Kennedy Jones, Kyron Thompson and Adrian Witherspoon. Williams “Boo Man” Lee was on hand for a couple of practices last week.
COMING TOMORROW: Former Bastrop High quarterback Darren Anderson plans to sign with Tennessee-Martin later this week. Anderson spent the past two seasons at Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) Community College where he was a starting wide receiver and backup quarterback. Look for a story on Anderson in Wednesday's Enterprise.
