All-District 2-2A Baseball Team

Anybody want to take a guess as to who is the Most Valuable Player on the All-District 2-2A baseball team?

In a mere formality, Sterlington senior righthander Casey Sutton was officially declared the league MVP after compiling an 11-0 regular season record with an earned run average of 0.77. In 73 innings pitched, the Hinds (Miss.) Community College signee notched 108 punchouts against only seven walks.

Completing a sweep of the individual honors, Randy Carr is Coach of the Year after piloting the Panthers to a 24-10 regular season record and a regional playoff berth.

In all, a dozen Panthers were voted onto the squad, including seven first-teamers.

Sutton is accompanied on the pitching staff by junior righthander Austin Haman and sophomore lefthander Ross Lambert.

Returning sooner than expected from football-related knee surgery, Haman won all six decisions, with a minuscule 0.50 earned run average. Working 28 innings, he fanned 35 and issued a mere eight walks.

Arguably the Panthers' most pleasant surprise next to Haman's speedy recovery, Lambert compiled a 4-2 record with a 3.76 ERA in 31 2/3 innings pitched.

Joining the trio of pitchers on the first unit are senior catcher Kyle Dolecheck, junior shortstop Austin Mills, senior center fielder Taylor Lockwood and junior designated hitter Kyle Vandergracht.

Dolecheck packaged together a .341 batting average, with two home runs, a triple, nine doubles and 20 RBI.

Mills drove in 23 runs, while finishing the season with a .340 batting standard, two triples and six doubles.

Lockwood, an LSU-Shreveport signee, registered a .340 batting average, a team-best 15 extra base hits (three home runs, three triples, nine doubles) and 21 RBI.

Vandergracht's final regular season line read: .348 batting average, one triple, seven doubles and 20 RBI.

Named to the second team from Sterlington were junior first baseman Tyler Buffington, freshman second baseman Devon Murphy, junior outfielder Trent Raffray, senior outfielder Allen Anders and junior outfielder Elliott Courson.
