The Bastrop Daily Enterprise had the honor of hosting a luncheon May 7 for the top students from Morehouse Parish. In all, six students attended the luncheon, meant to show appreciation for the hard work and determination they have shown to achieve the recognition of Valedictorian and Salutatorian for their high schools.
From Bastrop High School, the 2013 Valedictorian is Christian Carnes. He is the 18 year-old son of James and Amanda Carnes.
Christian attends Cherry Ridge Baptist Church and plays paintball, the guitar and baseball in his spare time. His future plans are to attend the University of Louisiana at Monroe and mayor in biology. He plans to further his studies in medical school.
The 2013 Salutatorian for Bastrop High School is Aneatria Watson. She is the daughter of Darren and Anita Watson and is involved with the BHS band, soccer, and MuSigma.
Aneatria plans to attend Louisiana Tech University and major in computer science.
Emily Wynn Downs is the 2013 Salutatorian for Ouachita Christian School. She is the daughter of Ross and Gina Downs and attends Christ Episcopal Church. She is involved in the French Club, Art Club, FCA, Lambda Sigma Kappa and the National Honor Society. She was awarded the Honesty and Integrity Award by the Mt. Gerizum Masonic Lodge #54.
Emily plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in biology, with a minor in business administration. She also plans to further her education by attending medical school and becoming a pediatrician.
Kristen Brooke Oliphant is the 2013 Valedictorian for Prairie View Academy. She is the daughter of Jan and Scotty Jones and attends Bethel Baptist Church. She is a member of the student council, the Fellowship of Christian Students, National Honor Society and the Lady Spartans basketball and softball teams. She has many All-District honors in both sports and played in the All-Star games of both. She was awarded the Honesty and Integrity Award by the Mt. Gerizum Masonic Lodge #54, the Dr. E.D. Baker Award and the title of Miss PVA.
Kristen Brooke plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Monroe and major in kinesiology-occupational therapy.
Caleb Daniel Anders is one of the 2013 PVA Salutatorians. He is the son of Bruce and Dara Anders and attends Central Missionary Baptist Church, where he is very active in the youth group and sings in the choir. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Students. Caleb has participated in the Thanksgiving for Reese food drive for the past four years and Operation Christmas Child.
Anne-Marie Ogden is the second 2013 Salutatorian for PVA. She is the daughter of Jim and Annette Ogden and attends First Methodist Church. She is very active in the Rose Youtheatre, and was the president of the National Honor Society and Student Council. She was the secretary for the Fellowship of Christian Students and Captain of the varsity cheerleaders. She was honored to be selected as an All-American cheerleader and is a member of the varsity track and tennis teams. She was awarded the Honesty and Integrity Award by the Mt. Gerizum Masonic Lodge #54, the I Dare You award and the Dr. E.D. Baker Award.
