Making its first state playoff appearance since 2008, the Prairie View Spartans landed five players on the first-team MAIS All-District 3-2A squad.
District champion and North State finalist Central Hinds swept the individual awards. Blake Bishop and Keller Bradford are the co-Most Valuable Players, while Todd Montgomery is Coach of the Year.
Prairie View's honorees include junior pitcher/center fielder Maclendon Sharp, sophomore pitcher/outfielder Tristen Shanks, junior pitcher/right fielder Matt Reed, junior shortstop Chyenne Mayo and senior third baseman Austin McDonald.
Sharp led the team with a .408 batting average and a .536 on base percentage.
Shanks hit .298 with a .457 on-base average. On the mound, he compiled a 6-2 record with a 1.43 earned run average, with 78 punchouts in 44 innings.
Sharp and Shanks are both repeat first-team selections.
Reed posted a .294 batting average and a .464 on base percentage.
Mayo, who came on strong down the stretch, was second on the team in batting average (.400) and on base percentage (.500).
McDonald registered a .295 batting average and a .491 on base mark.
Central Hinds leads the way with six selections, followed by Prairie View and River Oaks with five and Riverdale with two.
Bishop and Bradford are joined on the list by teammates Josh Banes, Peyton Banes, Ty Mohler and Tanner Leggett. Mohler is a junior, while Josh and Peyton Banes and Leggett are eighth-graders.
River Oaks is represented by Zach Barnes, Chase Bates, Jamie Downs, Garrett Morgan and Brendan MacGregor.
Rounding out the first team are Cole Hinds and Zack Givens from Riverdale.
Junior pitcher/infielder Brandon Jacobs of Prairie View received honorable mention acclaim. Jacobs was 2-1 on the mound, while hitting .250 and putting together a .491 on base percentage.
