  • Most of Prairie View's first week of spring practice was spent indoors. Friday afternoon's workout marked the Spartans' fourth straight day in the gym.
"Hopefully, we'll be able to get outside Monday," Prairie View coach Reagan Morrison said.
Morrison says the Spartans are focusing primarily on fundamentals, with practices geared toward linemen and skill players on alternate days.
Prairie View will practice Monday-Thursday next week, before breaking camp. With finals coming up the week of May 13-17, the Spartans will cut the spring session short.
First-team All-District offensive tackle Payton Hollis heads the Spartans' returnees up front. Hollis and Ross Blackard, Ty Barnhill, Clay Moore and Wyatt Thompson are the only veteran linemen in camp. Thompson is expected to be used at H-back and linebacker next fall.
Maclendon Sharp, a first-team All-District wide receiver who doubles at safety, leads the list of incumbents at the skill positions.
Quarterback Dylan Carroll, whose junior season was cut short by a major knee injury, is throwing but has yet to be cleared to run.
Lucas Crockett, who started several games as a freshman during Carroll's absence, is taking the snaps with the first unit.
Hunter Carpenter, Hunter Green and Layne Gray are slated for double duty at running back and linebacker, while Chyenne Mayo and Dylan Mewborn are working at wide receiver and defensive back.
Four sophomores-to-be will be asked to contribute immediately — running back/linebacker Nolan Whorton and linemen Preston Goodson, Nathan Tarver and Devin Hughes.
