Johnny's Pizza 8, D&H (Swartz) 6

Johnny's Pizza opened the Dixie Youth Baseball season with an 8-6 victory over D&H Sporting Goods (Swartz) on Tuesday night.

Trailing 5-0, Johnny's tied the game with a five-spot of its own in the bottom of the first. Gavin Lingefelt's two-run double keyed the outburst.

D&H reclaimed the lead with a run in the third, before Austin Carroll snagged a line drive to start an inning-ending double play and prevent a big inning.

Johnny's forged its first lead of the evening with a three-run third as Shemar Bradshaw poled a two-run double and stole home to put the Pizza Men ahead 8-6.

D&H brought the tying run to the plate in the fourth, but ran into some hard luck. With runners at second and third and two outs, Jamal Davis' ground ball hit a D&H runner for the final out of the game as the time limit expired.

Overcoming a shaky start, Ryan Chain went the distance for the win. He struck out five, walked three and allowed eight hits.

Lingefelt and Bradshaw doubled for Johnny's and Chain and Carroll singled.

Pearce Hayman paced D&H at the plate with a double and a single, Blake Stephens singled twice, Tyler Hitt doubled and Davis, Noah Mills and Ethan Hayman singled.

Reliever Zack Vining, who inherited a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the bottom of the first pitched admirably in defeat for D&H. He struck out six, walked five and surrendered four hits.
