  • Allison Willard and Meshanna English set personal records en route to winning the pole vault and the javelin as the Sterlington Lady Panthers finished runner-up in the District 2-2A Meet at Lakeside High School on Wednesday.
The top three finishers in each event advance to the Regional Meet to be hosted by Sterlington on Wednesday at ULM's Brown Stadium.
Willard cleared 9-0 in the pole vault and teammate Alex Howard tied a personal record while placing second.
Meshanna English uncorked a throw of 92-5 in the javelin. Teammate Ahlieia Robinson was fourth at 76-1.
Meshanna English also added a second-place finish in the shot put (33-3).
LaTasha English was runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 15-8.50.
Sterlington picked up a pair of seconds and thirds in the hurdles. Annarasha Glass was second in the 100m hurdles and third in the 300m hurdles, while Taylor Ross was second in the 300 and third in the 100.
Glass, Gracie George, Kaniesha Carr and Lacy Bagbey teamed up to produce a second-place finish in the 4 x 100-m relay.
Sterlington was third in the 4 x 400m and fourth in the 4 x 200m. George, Bagbey, Carr and Lauren Cramer passed the baton in the 4 x 4, with Glass, George, Karr and Bagbey running the 4 x 2.
Sterlington received a third-place finish from Carrington Merrill in the 3200, while Carr tied for third in the high jump.
Ross was fourth in the 400m dash as was Robinson in the javelin and Katherine Antis in the discus.
Bagbey and Ross placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the triple jump.
Competing in the 800m run were Lauren Kramer, who finished sixth, and Kelsey Powell, whose father underwent heart surgery Tuesday night.
“Kelsey and her brother (Jared) were with their daddy Tuesday night and only got a couple of hours sleep,” Sterlington coach Darlene Eubanks said. “Kelsey showed a lot of desire just by competing.”
