Funeral services for Kathy Gilpatrick Middlebrooks will be held at 10 a.m. on April 17, 2013 at the Harmony Baptist Church. The Rev. Allen Eppinette will officiate. Interment will be at the Stevenson Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Harmony Baptist Church.
Kathryn Jo Gilpatrick Middlebrooks was born February 16, 1961 in Kennett, Mo. to Pat and Dolly Hurt Gilpatrick. She passed away, surrounded by her family, on April 15, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.
Kathy was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church, where she served as a TEEN teacher. She was an educator for over 22 years with the Morehouse School System. At the time of her death she taught the fifth grade at Morehouse Magnet School. She had a heart for teaching. She always referred to her students as “her children.” All of her students, past and present, had a special place in her heart, and she loved each one unconditionally.
Kathy was survived by her husband, Mike Middlebrooks; her children, Mitch Stephens and his wife, Melanie, Jeremie Middlebrooks, Sabrina Middlebrooks and Carl Michael Middlebrooks; her parents, Pat and Dolly Gilpatrick; a brother, Patrick Gilpatrick; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Gilpatrick and Kathleen L. Gilpatrick, Christ-adopted sisters, Marilyn Gilbreath and Nita Towne; 11 grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers are Jeremie Middlebrooks, David Watt and nephews, Nathan Gilpatrick, Darrell Gilpatrick, David Gilpatrick and Roy Middlebrooks.
