Ouachita Relays (Boys)
Freshman Rodeshia Heard placed in both jumping events as the Bastrop Lady Rams tuned up for the District 2-4A Meet with a second-place finish at the Ouachita Relays on Friday.
Bastrop will compete in the District Meet on Wednesday at West Ouachita.
"I think our girls have a chance to be at the top of district if they handle their business," Bastrop coach Sedarrin Freeman said.
As for the Ouachita Relays, Freeman said, "I thought we ran well. We moved some people around and had them compete in different events, trying to get them ready for District."
Michelle Hardin won the shot put with a throw of 37-0, while Heard was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.
"Rodeshia has a lot of potential," Freeman said. "If we can get her to develop, she has a chance to get a scholarship at the end of her career."
Bastrop finished second to Crossett in the 4 x 100-meter and 4 x 200m relays and third in the 4 x 400m.
"Wossman is the team to beat in the 4 x 4, girls and boys," Freeman said. "It was good for us to be able to run against them before District."
Destini Davis, Stataijia Johnson, Desiree McHenry and Jessica Gray carried the baton in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m. Dineshia Chatman, Khadijah Tyler, Gray and Devondria Jones ran on the 4 x 400m.
Chatman replaced Sharay Hyde, who missed the meet with an injury, in the 4 x 400m.
