Ouachita Relays (Girls)
Competing in the second track and field meet of his career, Johnnie Marsaw won the shot put and took third in the discus as Bastrop placed third overall in Friday's Ouachita Relays.
"Johnnie has really helped us," Bastrop coach Sedarrin Freeman said.
Teaming with Marsaw in the throwing events, Jalynn Rayford won the discus and finished third in the shot put.
James Willis and Chase Flowers placed second and third, respectively, in the javelin.
Demarcus Haynes gave Bastrop its lone first-place finish in the running events as he was timed at 4:59 in the 1600-meter run.
"Haynes will be pushed this week," Freeman said. "He knows West Ouachita always has a couple of guys that can run. I think he's looking forward to it."
Next up for the Rams is the District 2-4A Meet at West Ouachita on Wednesday afternoon.
"The guys are going to have to scrap at District," Freeman said.
The top three finishers in each event advance to the Regional Meet at Benton High School on Wednesday, April 24.
"I think the kids are focused," Freeman said. "They know if they don't make it out of this week, it's going to be over."
